Whatever else you may think of it, this horror film goes like a fast train. There's an incubus loose among the Hittites of Pennsylvania, and it's rapidly decreasing the population of these ultra-religious, Puritan-type farming people. Farmer Jim has broken away from the sect and married a city-girl Martha (an appealing performance by Maren Jensen). But Jim soon has his tractor pushed on top of him and Martha and the two girlfriends who come to stay are left at the mercy of primitive terrors. Although the film now and again touches the ludicrous, director Wes Craven makes few mistakes - if terror piled on terror is what you're looking for. The ending is blood-pounding stuff, marred only by a ludicrous tailpiece. Best to have a stiff brandy standing by. A pre-stardom Sharon Stone plays the heroine's friend.
