John Huston's very black comedy about the exploits of the atheist son of a hellfire preacher in America's southern states' 'Bible Belt', a character whom Brad Dourif makes both funny and frightening. It's a disturbing sermon on gullibility and greed, sometimes quite horrifying, but at its funniest in the sequences where a fake gorilla visits the town to promote a film.
