A true-life murder case, this story of Ruth Ellis, the last woman in Britain to hang, was strikingly filmed a few years ago as Dance With a Stranger. This 1956 version stands up well by comparison, with a rare dramatic performance by Diana Dors, contributing her finest film work as the (you may think) unfortunate murderess. Pretty harrowing for its time, with few punches pulled. With typical subtlety, Hollywood retitled the film Blonde Sinner.
