Although it's not accurate as a history lesson, this colourful period drama does feature a dynamic acting battle between Vanessa Redgrave, as Mary, and Glenda Jackson, raspingly repeating her TV portrait of Mary's cousin Elizabeth I. All credit, also, to Timothy Dalton, Patrick McGoohan, Nigel Davenport and Trevor Howard for bringing charisma and understanding to their supporting roles.

This is not exactly a true story, however, the acting in it is superb. It was truly inspiring to be able to watch the two greatest actresses of their time. Vanessa Redgrave is well suited to the naive Queen. It's a great film to watch if you're slightly interested in the era.
