This brisk and well-shot children's adventure from the reliable Children's Film Foundation stable is reminiscent of an Enid Blyton story for older children. Ponies, cycles and not-too-serious criminal activities abound, and school desks are deserted at the drop of a clue. In the film's best sequence, cattle rampage headlong through a market, creating excitement that would do credit to a movie for adults. One of the three youthful sleuths is played by Sophie Ward, who had grown up a decade later to be the heroine of Young Sherlock Holmes.
