Shown elsewhere as Sewers of Gold, this thriller from Lew Grade's production company is based on the real-life exploits of Albert Spaggiari, an outrageous right-winger who planned a Fascist takeover of France. He determined to fund his private army by robbing a bank in wealthy Nice and the film deals with Spaggiari's crazy plan to attack the vaults from the town's sewers. As Spaggiari (here called `Bert' and `the Brain') swarthy Ian McShane is more at home than some other British members of the cast in conveying an authentic Gallic arrogance.
