A throwback to such all-woman wartime films as So Proudly We Hail! and Cry Havoc and even British TV's Tenko, this story of American nurses facing capture - and worse - by the Japanese on Bataan has a solid cast headed by two of Hollywood's best actresses, Susan Sarandon and Kristy McNichol. The flag-waving content sits a trifle uneasily these days with elements of terror, rape, starvation and brutalisation, but it's a well-made piece and well acted too.
