Old-time idols Edmund Lowe and Ramon Novarro prop up the cast of this unusual western based on Louis L'Amour's novel, Heller with a Gun.

Sympathetically directed by George Cukor, it features a blonde-wigged Sophia Loren as the leading actress of a travelling rep company in the old west.

But there's no chemistry here between Loren and Anthony Quinn, and the whole project lacks life, in spite of the action including amusing extracts from the plays (including La Belle Helene) in the company's repertoire.

A major disappointment.
