Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas star in a real blockbuster based on George Bernard Shaw's play about the American War of Independence. The excellence of the action is equalled by the dialogue, Laurence Olivier, in particular, having a wonderful time spouting caustic witticisms as the strutting, sneering, smirking General Burgoyne. Might have been even more rousing (and earned a lot more money) if they'd shot in colour.
