Gerry O'Hara, who later made the splendid (but underrated) All the Right Noises, enjoyed his first success with this observant portrait of five Chelsea girls sharing a house and, of course, problems. O'Hara's ear for real-life dialogue is complemented by good performances, especially from Tony Tanner, who brings a freshness to the young homosexual who lives with the girls that makes the character both likeable and sympathetic, and steals the honours from a youthful Francesca Annis and Ian McShane.
