Former child-star Ricky Schroder deserves top marks for making his ultra idealistic lawman hero believable in this well-written, well-acted story of the corruption that spreads throughout the law enforcement body of a Southern States county. He's opposed by a whole bevy of Hollywood's twitchiest character actors, including George Dzundza, Matt Clark and Brad Dourif. It's hard to credit that this motley crew's roughshod ride over the law bears not a trace of racism, but the story is supposedly based on true events: only the name of the highway has been changed!
