A rare comedy film for both Steve McQueen and director Ralph Nelson, who made Soldier Blue. McQueen plays the arch scrounger in an army camp, and Jackie Gleason contributes a gem of a performance as the master-sergeant who reaps the benefits of McQueen's labours. A real oddball of a film, this: most of it is insignificant and even uninteresting considering the stars. But it begins to register as a unit as the relatrionship between McQueen and Gleason starts to build - then ends just as we are getting into it. Pretty scrappy.
