This touching adult comedy about a youth's induction to manhood was a deserved critical success but box-office flop. The lad is played - rather nicely - by Peter Kastner, who never became a star, but Karen Black (in only her second film) did, going on to be Oscar nominated for Five Easy Pieces. And the director went places, too. His name was Francis Ford Coppola Two other names light up the cast: Rip Torn plays his dad, Geraldine Page is mum.
