This star-studded, methodical thriller has Albert Finney as Agatha Christie's detective Hercule Poirot, trying to find out who murdered tycoon Richard Widmark on the Orient Express. There is a glittering cast of suspects and their performances range from great to ghastly. The Thirties setting is spot-on, though and the train a star in itself. Sidney Lumet directs with obvious affection for the story and Ingrid Bergman won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar as the Swedish missionary forever babbling about 'little brown babies'.
