Vivid recreation of the historic Halloween Eve in 1938 when Orson Welles' outlandish live radio broadcast - a daring adaptation of H G Wells' The War of the Worlds - convinced Americans in their homes that the United States had been invaded by creatures from Mars. Way above par script by Anthony Wilson and Nicholas Meyer (the latter now a director of note) and sharp, observant direction from Joseph Sargent. Paul Shenar makes a very creditable stab at impersonating the young Welles.
