Much troubled in the making, this is an elaborate whodunit, starring Stephen Boyd, about the death of an analyst found shot in his consulting room, which, after rather a long time, turns into an intriguingly creepy psychological thriller. Good supporting cast includes Richard Attenborough, Jack Hawkins, Diane Cilento, Paul Rogers, Rachel Kempson, Peter Sallis, Judi Dench, Nigel Davenport and Freda Jackson - but thriller fans should soon spot the guilty party. A sub-plot featuring Patricia Neal was deleted entirely before the film was premiered - adding further to the confusion.
