A compelling account of the 1932 kidnapping of aviator Charles Lindbergh's baby. Rather long and slow, the film takes an investigative rather than judgmental approach, but has a hypnotically sombre atmosphere, and gets an enormous lift from the performance of Anthony Hopkins as the alleged kidnapper. Hopkins won an Emmy. The strong supporting cast includes such screen veterans as Joseph Cotten, Dean Jagger, Walter Pidgeon, Martin Balsam and Keenan Wynn.
