The Oxford-educated actress is probably best known on the big screen for the role of Dorota in Roman Polanski's Holocaust movie The Pianist.
Other notable feature appearances for the classically-trained pianist and cellist include Keeping Mum and Things To Do Before You're 30.
The daughter of actors Edward Fox and Joanna David, she was educated at private school in Dorset before studying at Oxford University.
At the end of her first year, she played Darcy's sister in the BBC's 1995 Pride And Prejudice alongside Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.
In 1997, she played the role of the second Mrs de Winter in Rebecca, a role which her mother had played in the 1978 version.
Focussing on TV work, she went on to appear in David Copperfield and The Scarlet Pimpernel as well as comedy shorts with Mark Little and Miranda Richardson.
In 2000, she became romantically involved with comedian Vic Reeves after starring in the television remake of Randall & Hopkirk deceased.
After appearing in the John Malkovich short The Hideous Man in 2002, Polanski cast her as Dorota opposite Adrien Brody in the Oscar-winning The Pianist.
Subsequent big screen appearances included 3 Blind Mice and the comedy drama The Republic of Love as well as a guest appearance in TV's Coupling.
She met her husband, Jared Harris, when they both starred in the ill-fated West End theatre production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses in 2003.
The following year, she starred alongside Dougray Scott and Jim Mistry in the comedy Things To Do Before You're 30 and also appeared in the black British comedy Keeping Mum.
Recent work includes the hit TV series Silent Witness and she provided the voice of Bettina for the animated movie Free Jimmy.
