Ahmad Riaz
Born: Pakistan
The Glasgow accountant made his one and only foray into film as the stern father in Ken Loach's romantic drama Ae Fond Kiss.
When he was a 15-year-old in Pakistan he sent his picture away to a film studio but it took decades for him to get his break.
Loach was looking for a Pakistani who had emigrated to Scotland years before and was fluent in the Glasgow accent.
"To look natural in the Glasgow scene you'd say: 'Och aye the noo and you cannie shove your granny off the bus'."
When Riaz first arrived in the city he worked on the buses despite being qualified in the law and only became a chartered accountant later.
