A gritty, moving and frightening story about what life can really be like in American high schools, centred round a young student, Trevor (a brilliant performance by Ben Foster), who is pushed to depression and violence by extreme bullying at school. A caring drama teacher (Tom Cavanagh) offers Trevor the lead in the school play, which uncannily echoes the tortured Trevor's life. The play itself is real, and is apparently performed in schools and community theatres all over the world.
