The director is best known outside his native Germany for the children's cartoon Boo, Zino and the Snurks.

He made his big screen debut in 1994 with the short Wahlverwandschaften and his first feature was Sumo Bruno, about a train guard who became a sumo wrestler.

In 2004, Boo, Zino and the Snurks boasted the vocal talents of Patrick Stewart and Emily Watson.
