It's in French. It's set in Japan, There are English subtitles. And it's a violent gangster thriller mixed with a cross-cultural father-daughter comedy. It's also a hoot. Jean Reno thoroughly enjoys himself as a 'Dirty Harry' style French cop, who travels to Japan to attend the funeral of an old girlfriend, only to discover he's got a 19-year-old daughter (Ryoko Hirosue) he knew nothing about and an inheritance of $200 million. Add to the mix Japanese gangsters and an unbelievably thick French spy (Michel Muller) and you end up with a unique action comedy. If it meshes with your sense of humour, you'll love it, but if you can't quite understand why someone should bother to make a film like this, you'll be dumbfounded.
