Although there's action and tension in this Wesley Snipes thriller, how well-worn is the plot of rebels (here Chechens) who have access to a nuclear plant and one man, the Painter (Snipes, haunted by a past error), must lead a mission to stop them by setting a target for missiles and free some American scientists. Cliches include Snipes being haunted by a past error which cost many lives, his relationship with a superior officer (Emma Samms) and the top dogs who stubbornly won't believe what they're told. The script never rings true here, but the realisation of a set up and a subsequent race against time to save thousands against orders by relocating the bombing target makes for absorbing enough viewing for adventure fans with explosions and cat and miosue chases in tunnels and through deserted war-torn areas.
