D-Day for the unsung Marvel Comics super-hero, writes Suzanne Locke
- The 6'7", 30-stone meanie Kingpin (played by black actor Michael Clark Duncan) is white in the comic books.
- Duncan, who starred in The Green Mile, is former bodyguard to Will Smith and the Notorious B.I.G. - but, just like Kevin Costner's Bodyguard, he was off the night the rapper was murdered, leading to his own retirement.
- In the comics, Kingpin is arch-nemesis to both Daredevil and Spider-Man.
- Guy Pearce and Edward Norton were first considered for the part of Daredevil.
- Ben Affleck, a huge Daredevil fan, was flagged up for the part by his friend, Kevin Smith, who has written a series of the Daredevil comic and has a cameo.
- Smith even moved the shooting schedule for his own Affleck film, Jersey Girl, so his mate could do both.
- Director Mark Steven Johnson is also a massive fan and lobbied for seven long, hard years - to Disney and Sony before Fox - to helm and write, having already forked out thousands himself for the storyboards.
- Before Spider-Man proved that spandex is attractive to cinema-goers, the studio wanted to dress Daredevil in civvies.
- Fight choregrapher Master Yuen Cheung Yan did Charlie's Angels and his brother, Yeun Woo Ping, The Matrix.
