The veteran actor has established himself as a sterling supporting actor in movies ranging from Oliver Stone's JFK to disaster movie The Day After Tommorrow.
After attending State University of New York at Purchase, Sanders made his off-Broadway debut in a 1976 production of Shakespeare's Henry V.
Three years later he graduated to Broadway in Loose Ends and his first major film role - Charles Rawlings, the husband of novelist Marjorie Rawlings (Mary Steenburgen) in Cross Creek.
Subsequent appearances included an attorney in Tucker: The Man And His Dream, an army general in Glory and an FBI agent in Kiss The Girls.
He also appeared in Music Of The Heart, Along Came A Spider and Angels In The Outfield.
Recent work includes the disaster movie The Day After Tomorrow with Randy Quaid.
