Roger Moore
Born: 14th October 1927
Where: Stockwell, South London
Roger's first job was as a tracer and filler-in at an animated film company. He then went on to become a member of the studio workers union, ACTT, which in later years proved useful in directing films.
He started his film career with bit parts in as many as seven features but in 1957, Roger was reborn as a Western Hero with the premiere of Maverick, taking a significant role in the TV series.
From 1962 Roger was assigned a role as the suave and debonair Simon Templar in the TV series The Saint. This was a significant step in catapulting Roger Moore into stardom despite preventing him from playing James Bond at the time.
It was only when he had completed twenty-four episodes of The Persuaders, his latest American TV series, that Roger was finally offered the role as Bond in 1972.
Moore continued with the role of Bond for a full twelve years prior to his signing in '72 despite critical rumours that he was growing old for the part.
In the early 1980's, he became interested in working with the UN's children's charity (UNICEF) through his friend and fellow actor; Audrey Hepburn.
He was appointed UNICEF Special Representative for the Film Arts in 1991 and soon after was named UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to acknowledge his outstanding service for children. Moore has since received numerous awards for his humanitarian work.
But events soon took a turn for the worst and on the 15th October 2000 Roger and his third wife divorced. The press soon sussed Roger's reasons for the split as they unveiled his seven-year affair with Christina "Kiki" Tholstrup, a former Swedish air-stewardess.
Roger now lives in Switzerland as a father of three with two granddaughters. It is a quote of Roger's that his son would be "perfect" for the role of Bond.
