Excellent wartime drama with a multiplicity of incident and some fascinating characters. Deborah Kerr is bewitching as the adventuress who, keen to join the IRA, becomes the pawn of Nazis instead. The writer-director team of Frank Launder and Sidney Gilliat concocted, with the aid of Wolfgang Wilhelm and actor Liam Redmond (who also plays a major part in the film) one of their cleverest and most incisive scripts. Shot on locations in Dublin, Dundalk, Devon and the Isle of Man, the finely-crafted story was a huge success at British box-offices and even did respectably in America.
