The former college quaterback made his feature debut in Alan Pakula's Comes A Horseman in 1978.

The son of actor Tom Harmon on former actress Elyse Knox, subsequent roles included Beyond the Poseidon Adventure and Lawrence Kasdan's Wyatt Earp.

He also appeared in Stealing Home with Jodie Foster and in Carl Reiner's smash hit Summer School.

Memorable cameos include films such as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Natural Born Killers and The Last Supper.

It is on Amercan TV he is best known, with appearances in Chicago Hope, St Elsewhere and The West Wing.

Recent big screen work includes Mark Waters' witty remake of Freaky Friday with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.
