Despite the spectacular action set-pieces like the chariot race, it's the moving moments that are the finest in William Wyler's magnificent epic of the time-of-Christ story. Charlton Heston is a tower of strength as betrayed Jewish prince Judah Ben-Hur sold into slavery, Haya Harareet is tender and true as Esther and Stephen Boyd magnetically evil as Messala. The dialogue, script, photography and direction cast a potent spell - movie magic indeed. The film deservedly won 11 Oscars, including Best Film, Actor and Director.
