Interesting if rather bludgeoning drama about life in the lower levels of an American industrial city. Although some of the over-acting is nothing short of criminal, the film's appeal is preserved by its personable young leads, Richard Gere and Marilu Henner, even if their clean-cut interpretations of 'dirty' roles emphasise what's wrong with the film: it warrants a more realistic treatment than its overheated script can offer.
