Andrew McCarthy
Born: November 29, 1962
Where: Westfield, New Jersey
One of the original 1980's Hollywood Brat Packers, McCarthy made his name in a number of coming-of-age films most notably Class in 1983, his debut, in which he embarks on an affair with the mother of his roommate (Rob Lowe), Pretty In Pink, opposite Molly Ringwald, and the classic St. Elmo's Fire in 1985, which boasted a Who's Who of mid-80s young Hollywood, i.e. the The Brat Pack.
Another box-office hit for McCarthy was Michael Gottlieb's Mannequin, in which he starred opposite Kim Cattrall, currently best known as Samantha in hit TV series Sex and the City.
In 1989 he teamed with Jonathan Silverman for the comedy Weekend At Bernie's, and it was four years before his next major starring role came along - Wayne Wang's The Joy Luck Club.
In 1996 McCarthy starred in Lee Tamahori's Mulholland Falls opposite Nick Nolte and Melanie Griffith, but since then his career has taken a downward turn.
Most recently McCarthy's work has involved TV movies and low-budget projects - he has never hit the great heights of Hollywood since his promising start in the 80s.
His stage career is still flourishing.
