A realistic, moody and believable spy thriller that's superior in every department except the script. Scott Glenn is perfect as the laconic, jaded secret agent hired for a mission that may result in the death of an old friend, while Robert Loggia brings his familiar world-weary wisdom to the man whose life is in danger. There's good location photography by Tomislav Pinter, and the tension is edgily underlined by Basil Poledouris' eerily effective score. Best scene: the one in which Glenn and his Russian counterpart grumble about the budget cuts within their respective espionage programmes.
