Low-key, leisurely but occasionally blazing courtroom drama, with Gary Cooper as the visionary and much-maligned Billy Mitchell, who was arraigned in secret in 1925 for bucking the Army and fighting for a separate Air Force, as well as correctly predicting that one day the US would have to fight Japan. But even 'Coop' is acted off the screen by Rod Steiger, as a truly hateful prosecutor. Although he only makes a late appearance in the film, Steiger's ruthless portrayal makes a powerful impact on the proceedings. The film's script, good but not that good, was a surprising choice as an Oscar nominee. The title was changed for British cinema release to One-Man Mutiny.
