A glossy, sophisticated blend of comedy and thrills, made with immense confidence, this crime caper is the first and best of the hellraising Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin Rat Pack films, as they head a gang of 11 ex-paras planning to lift the Christmas takings from Las Vegas' five biggest casinos. It's a chuckle from beginning to end, with a satisfactory, if obvious climax, though as entertainment it's now in the shadow of the George Clooney remake. There are some bright cameos, with Sammy Davis Jr making most impression, especially when he's singing the Ee-O-Leven song.
