The Quiet Man

John Ford's hugely enjoyable, Oscar-winning slice of Irish blarney stars John Wayne as an ex-boxer who returns to his Galway hometown to settle down and tame fiery Maureen O'Hara. Both Ford and The Duke roll their sleeves up for a boozing, brawling ballyhoo.

Director John Ford and his favourite leading man John Wayne transfer the fisticuffs of the Old West to the West of Ireland in this love story with bloody knuckles.

It is one of Ford's finest hours, painstakingly constructed as if he were at work on an oil painting, and highlighted by a terrific knock-down fight between Wayne and Victor McLaglen.
