This re-working of The Hounds of Zaroff makes exciting popular entertainment. Richard Widmark and Jane Greer (both on good form) are the intrepid hero and game heroine being pursued through various arduous trials by nasty villains who, in this kind of action thriller, are reasssuringly bound to come to a sticky end. It's a gory adventure, directed at a rare pace by Britain's Roy Boulting, and with a brilliant performance by Peter van Eyck as chief villain Trevor Howard's cohort. There are more than enough thrills along the way and the ending is quite startling. The odds are you'll enjoy every moment of this adventurous hokum.
