Despite all the frantic running around and shouting (principally from Tim Curry as a hyperactive butler), this comedy murder mystery doesn't amount to much. Inspired by the game "Cluedo" - known in America as "Clue" - it is in fact a pale imitation of the earlier and more satisfying sleuthing spoof 'Murder By Death', although Christopher Lloyd, since a star in the 'Back to the Future' films, is a suitably eccentric Professor Plum. There were three different endings shot, each identifying a different killer, but this British print has only one, which is enough. With jokes about French maids with short skirts and big breasts, director Jonathan Lynn reveals his early TV origins on sitcoms like 'On The Buses' and 'Doctor At Large'. If only he had taken a lead from his more recent 'Yes, Minister'.
