Edna Ferber's doorstep-sized novel, one of the first of the blockbusters, here filmed with Burton and Ryan as the two fishery tycoons slugging it out during Alaska's struggle to become a state of the Union. Burton comes up with a Welsh-American accent and some minor James Cagney impressions.
