A wily old outlaw tempts two young lads into a life of crime then does the dirty on them by turning bounty hunter in this somewhat disappointing Western. Lee Marvin plays the outlaw with the gusto we would expect from him and one of the youngsters is played by Ron Howard, who went on to star in Happy Days and direct such films as Splash, Far and Away and Apollo 13. These, plus a strong supporting cast, a good (but not particularily original) story and direction by Richard Fleischer, sadly don't stop this film being pretty average. Still, Marvin's always worth watching.
