Apart from the subject - red-suited firefighters quell large-scale oil and gas blazes all over the world - this is a typical John Wayne, move-it-along, take-it-or-leave-it movie, full of brawls, battles and blunt staccato dialogue, with a redundant love interest. Big John is supported by Vera Miles as his wife, Katharine Ross as his daughter and Jim Hutton as his young sidekick. The action is leavened with some much-needed humour which makes the fragmentary tales that bit more entertaining. It's based on the career of the famous 'Red' Adair.
