Allegory is the name of the game in this desiccated thriller, in which two fugitives flee a nameless force across a nameless country. The ruggedness of the action, and Robert Shaw's abrasive performance (he also wrote the script) almost save it. Malcolm McDowell plays the other 'figure'.
