The film that spawned a long-running television series and made a star of roly-poly William Conrad. Up until this, Conrad had been a well-known radio voice and in his rare film and TV appearances he was usually a heavy ('scuse the pun). Although called Cannon, he looks more like the ammunition, but manages to pack a mean punch as a private eye finding a network of corruption behind a murder. Not a bad murder mystery, with good support performances from Vera Miles, Keenan Wynn and Barry Sullivan. Not exactly edge-of-the-seat stuff, but it should keep you guessing.
