If this Columbo adventure has more twists and turns than usual, credit the fertile mind of writer Steven Bochco, the man who created such hit American TV series as NYPD Blue. One of the suspects in this case of murder in the corridors of power is played by Leslie Nielsen, who has emerged in more recent years as a droll comedy star, particularly in the Naked Gun comedies. And there's a super performance from that underrated actress Susan Clark. The director is character actor Norman Lloyd, best remembered by nostalgia fans as the man who fell from the Statue of Liberty in Alfred Hitchcock's Saboteur. With the help of Bochco's script, he's done an above-par Columbo job here.
