Best known for his 'Living Dead' trilogy and other horror films, director George A Romero took a break from all that with this bold but miscalculated fantasy which seems to go on for ever. But Romero deserves credit for ambition and ingenuity, and also gave an early leading role to Ed Harris, soon to consolidate film stardom as astronaut John Glenn in 'The Right Stuff'. Here Harris plays the idealistic leader of a group of bikers who stage medieval jousting bouts on two wheels. The picture also features a cameo appearance by the horror writer Stephen King, who would be wiser to stick to his books.
