A standard Republic 'gambling saloon' western. The studio at least gave their regular action man, John Wayne, a decent leading lady in spitfire Ann Dvorak, and threw in the San Francisco earthquake for good measure. But an uncharacteristically slack script by Borden Chase hurts the film's efforts in other departments. A good supporting cast includes Virginia Grey, Joseph Schildkraut, William Frawley, Adele Mara (on her way up at the studio), Paul Fix and Marc Lawrence.
