John Wayne took time off from taming the Wild West to wipe out half of the Japanese army in this comic strip of a World War Two actioner designed as a propaganda piece. It moves along at such a cracking, barnstorming pace it will leave you quite breathless. Military purists will hate it, gung-ho Wayne lovers will be drooling as the Duke plays his male supremacist role (he's positively ghastly to lovely Susan Hayward) to the letter. Wayne is Wedge Donovan, a construction engineer, engaged to build an airstrip on a remote Pacific island. When the Japs invade, Wayne and his crew (the Fighting Seabees of the title) take the war into their own hands and cause no end of harm. But Wayne and his men bounce back, and how! This man makes Rambo look like Larry Grayson.
