Remakes always follow the laws of diminishing returns, no matter how heavyweight you make the cast. Despite being an enjoyable courtroom drama in it own right, this remake of the 1957 classic falls short of the original, even though Ralph Richardson stars to great effect as the ailing barrister called in to defend a man accused of murder. Anyone who saw Charles Laughton in the role will be sitting comparing the two performances rather than simply enjoying the story. Recommended. though, for those who haven't encountered the twists and turns of this Agatha Christie plot before.
