Although this made-for-TV western has many familiar elements, it's a well-paced and exciting film. Two brothers, Mac and Dal Traven (Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott), return home to Texas after the Civil War to find their sisters, little brother and Dal's sweetheart have been abducted by Rebel raiders. They set off in search of their lost family. A fine cast and a sound story from western writer Louis L'Amour set this film well above the average. Selleck and Elliott fill their roles convincingly. They made two fine cowboys at a time when Hollywood didn't seem to want cowboy heroes. A shame for them and us.
