This vintage poker-playing thriller set a Thirties New Orleans hotel room -- where The Kid (Steve McQueen) takes on The Man (Edward G Robinson) at cards -- will wind up your nerves and give you no end of enjoyment. King of cool McQueen makes the most of a stylish part and Joan Blondell shines as a poker dealer, but it's canny old Edward G Robinson who lords over all.
