Altogether more agreeable than its predecessor, this sequel to The Naked Gun is more akin to Airplane! in its humour. Sometimes there are so many gags going on in the background to a scene that it's hard to keep up, especially if you're trying to follow the plot about Lt Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) uncovering a dastardly attempt to influence the energy policy of the US government. At the same time, he attempts to rekindle the fading embers of his affair with Jane (Priscilla Presley) who just happens to be involved. Drebin's capacity for catastrophe rivals that of Peter Sellers' Clouseau in this one and is used to the full in a wildly successful running gag involving the misfortunes of then-First Lady Barbara Bush. Watch quickly for Zsa Zsa Gabor in a fleeting but funny guest appearance. Pie in the Sky detective Richard Griffiths has a good supporting role.
